Founder

Amaar Alwani

Founder & CEO

Amaar is a Senior at the University of Rochester's BS/MD Program and the founder of Learning for a Cause. He is pursuing degrees in Computational Biology and Business. Passionate about leveraging education and storytelling to drive social impact, Amaar created Learning for a Cause to empower students with the resources they need to succeed. His work bridges innovation, advocacy, and education, pushing for a future where young voices are not only heard but also given the tools to drive real change.

Samuel Lurvey
COO & Secretary 

Samuel Lurvey is currently a rising senior at Great Neck South High School. He is interested in STEM, and takes part in numerous science-based events, such as Science Olympiad and research competitions. He is a competitive fencer and an experienced tutor, and has experience with investing and managing money. He has volunteered with numerous groups over the summer, from Sip of Hope to Urban voices. In his free time, he likes to code, talk to friends, and do anything social.

Neal Sodhi

Director of Education

Neal Sodhi is currently a senior at Great Neck South High School. His interests are focused around STEM, especially in programming and mathematics. In high school, Neal is taking numerous advanced placement and honors-level classes. He is a prestigious member of the Robotics and Science Olympiad teams. Outside of school, Neal has worked with children while volunteering at the Cohen Children's Medical Center. In his free time, Neal enjoys spending time at the park with friends.

Tooba Alwani
Director of Curriculum Design and Development

Dr. Tooba Alwani is a third-year internal medicine resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, and serves as the lead for curriculum design at Learning For a Cause. Passionate about education, she has been involved in a wide range of teaching, tutoring, and mentorship efforts—from SAT and MCAT tutoring to college application advising. Recognizing the challenges residents often face with ECG interpretation, she created CardioLearn, an interactive, multimodal ECG curriculum tailored to her residency program. Her clinical interests include general cardiology, heart failure, and cardiac imaging, and she plans to pursue a career as an academic cardiologist.

Jansen Wong

Co-Director of Content and Media

​Jansen Wong is a rising junior at Great Neck South High School. He is passionate about all things STEM-related, especially computer science and chemistry. His passion drives him to educate others about STEM subjects so that others may have the opportunity to enjoy them as well. In his free time, Jansen participates in various competitions and enjoys swimming and playing the piano.

Matthew Tsui

Co-Director of Content and Media

Matthew Tsui is current a senior at Great Neck South High School. With a love for writing, he is wicked with his words. He also enjoys participating in STEM competitions, including: the American Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, and Science bowl. In his free time, he enjoys birding, fencing, playing table tennis, drawing, thinking, and encapsulating the stories of people through photography.

Charlie Yin

Director of Web Development and Technology

Charlie Yin is currently a Senior at Great Neck South High School. His interests are focused around STEM and Education, mainly in mathematics and programming. He is a competitor in the Silver Division of the United States of America Computing Olympiad and has scored highly on the AMC 12, qualifying for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. Outside of GNSHS, he participates in his Science Olympiad team, helping bring his team to the state competition. In addition, he participates in Robotics, and helps with both building and designing the robot.

Daniel Pun

Director of Outreach

Daniel Pun is the Director of Outreach. He is currently a rising senior at William A. Shine Great Neck South High School. His interests are focused around STEM, mainly with math. He scored a 96 on the AMC 12A exam, qualifying for the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME). He is currently a member of the physics club and placed 36th place in the online physics brawl internationally with his team. He is also a part of the math team, participating in competitions. He swims for his school's swimming team to reach an 8-1 record. Extracurricularly, he is a Informatics Data Analyst for his local government agency. In his free time, he plays League of Legends, Genshin Impact, and cooks.

Collin Li

Director of Marketing

Collin is currently a senior at Great Neck South High School with interests rooted in STEM. He is an active member of the school In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer, riding his electric skateboard, and snowboarding. He is also, avid at beating his rival enemy Matthew, at ping pong.
